Corbieres, 30 minutes south of Carcassonne

If you dream of converting a stone barn into your dream home this is your chance. The barn is in Taurize, a wine making village in the Corbieres, about 15 km from Lagrasse.

It\'s stone, 100 m2 on the ground, has 2 levels so potentially 200 m2 of living space. There\'s a small garden - about 40 m2 - at the back and a small court or parking space about 25 m2 - at the front.

The roof is good. The walls are sound. The original wood floor on the first floor has patches that need to be replaced but can be saved.

Electricity and mains water and mains drains are just in front of the house.

Taurize is on a hill and you\'d have lovely views from the top floor. It be lovely to have a roof terrace. It\'s rare to find a barn this big with any kind of outdoor space.

This part of the Corbieres, the Val de Dagne, is lovely. Vineyards, garrigues, hills, little village, very picturesque. Great hiking, walking, and cycling. There\'s river swimming in Labastide about 3 km away and there\'s a small lake at the top of the hill behind Taurize.

No shops in the village but the vans call daily. There\'s a bakery and a small grocery in Servies, about 2 km, and a small supermarket, a butcher, a pharmacy, and a bakery in Montlaur, about 7 km. And of course, restaurants and a cafe in Lagrasse.

Carcassonne is about half an hour, the Mediterranean beaches about 45 minutes, and about 90 minutes to skiing.

This isn\'t a project for the faint of heart. If you pay to have all the work done it will cost at least 175,000 euros. If you can do the work yourself you\'ll still be probably be looking at a minimum of 60,000 euros. It will be worth it though. You\'ll have a beautiful house in a beautiful part of the south of France
